Northern Lights Martial Arts is a training crew and competition team, not a specific school or lineage scion. Northern Lights was founded as a group of martial artists of like mind who value the self-development that martial arts brings as a way of life. Northern Lights is not specific to one field of martial arts, though the strongest influences come from Chinese Kung Fu. The three major influences in the Northern Lights training program are Northern Shaolin, with specialization in Eagle Claw, Chang Moo Kwan style Taekwondo, and Jow Ga, a southern family system of Kung Fu. Training is demanding, requiring fitness on a level suitable for competent and commensurate performance in forms and fighting.
Northern Lights training is largely traditional, objective, and dynamic. The purpose of Northern Lights Martial Arts is to provide an ongoing, comprehensive mind-body-spirit experience designed to develop both the individual and the team. Training focuses on developing all-around well being, attitude, awareness, energy, team work, and self-knowledge for a healthier life path. This self-development pays dividends throughout all aspects of life, from attitude to decision making, from confidence to personal health. Northern Light Martial Arts is for those students who want to put in the time and effort to develop a higher level of athleticism, martial arts knowledge and skill, and self knowledge and esteem. For Northern Lights team members, the philosophy of martial arts holds that both the “art” and the “martial” are two sides of the same coin, balanced and ineluctable.
